A studio desk at dusk with monitors rendering a building from wireframe into photoreal light

about the studio · since 2014 · oaklandpark, fl

fathom.
a small studio that builds light, materials and time into pictures of buildings that don't exist yet.

no production line, no template kits — just patient, measured work made the way a good photograph is made: one frame, one hour of light, one honest detail at a time.

a render that earns its light

fathom began in 2014, in a back room two blocks from where the studio sits today, because too many renders we were handed had the same tell — a building floating in light that no real site would ever cast. furniture that belonged to no one. a sky bought off a shelf.

we wanted to make the other kind: a frame measured off the actual drawing set, lit by the actual sun for the actual latitude, so what an investor sees on the screen is what a contractor will eventually pour. that ambition still sets the pace — slower than most, on purpose.

more than a decade later, the room is bigger and the screens are sharper, but the rule hasn't moved an inch. if a detail can't be measured, we don't fake it. we ask.

a building is easier to believe when its light is honest.

bring us the drawing set and we'll show you the hour your site flatters it most.

what we hold to

four habits we won't trade for speed

these aren't slogans on the wall — they're the reasons a frame takes the time it takes, and the reasons clients keep sending us their hardest schemes.

provenance

measured, not invented

every dimension on screen comes off your set — mullion widths, reveal depths, slab edges. when a sheet is silent on a detail, we ask before we draw, so nothing gets quietly authored on your behalf.

the hand

worked by the same two people

the person who models your geometry is the person who grades the final crop. no offshore pass-throughs, no swapped hands halfway. you talk to whoever is actually moving the pixels.

patience

the long render is the point

frames cook overnight at full resolution because clean light can't be rushed. like a long exposure, the discipline lives in the waiting — no denoise shortcuts smeared over the detail.

plain dealing

honest scope, honest dates

we quote a fixed scope and a delivery date you can circle on a calendar, and we'd rather flag a tight deadline than overpromise it. the surprise belongs in the render, never in the invoice.

the name

to fathom once meant to stretch two arms wide and measure the deep by hand. we kept the word because we still measure that way — by reach, by patience, by the honest depth of a thing.

a day at the bench

slow mornings, long nights, clean frames

most days start with a drawing set spread out and a sun path open on the second screen — reading the building before a single polygon is built. afternoons are geometry and materials, assigned grain by grain: brushed brass, troweled plaster, low-iron glass.

then the frames go to render and the room goes quiet. they cook overnight, the way a print is left in the bath. in the morning there's grading, a touch of film grain, the crop — and a building that finally stands up convincingly enough to fund.

a few honest marks

the studio, measured out

2014

the back room

fathom opens with one desk, one machine and a stubborn idea — that a render should be built off the real set and lit by real sun, not bought ready-made off a shelf.

2018

frames in motion

the studio adds animated walkthroughs — a moving camera through the unbuilt, scored and paced like a short film for the pitch room rather than a fly-around for its own sake.

2021

the oaklandpark bench

the studio settles into 200 NE 41st — a proper bench with a big screen, where clients are welcome to come watch a frame render over coffee, by appointment.

today

still measuring by hand

four services — stills, motion, virtual staging and vr — every file modeled and graded by the same two people, delivered clean and unwatermarked, your name on the work.
